Wine met fashion

I and my trusty plus one, The Cat Blogger, kicked off our International Women's Day Celebrations with style as, invited by the Wine Merchant, headed off to Wine meets Fashion event at Klaus K. Their lounge was the perfect venue for the bash - why haven't I been back since Indiedays Blog Awards gala?

Dress code was "high heels". And this had clearly been honoured.

I'm just going to brazenly toot my own horn, but my absolute favourites of all the shoes on display were found at the end of my own legs. Good job there was all that wine - those heels are impossible to operate sober.

And accessory-freak was well and truly spoiled for eye candy. Is it too early to start drafting a letter to Santa?

First some bubbly to get the evening started (Lindauer Brut from New Zealand) and some outfits put together by Kaarina K, the most exclusive boutique in Helsinki.

It was like attending Fashion Week. The cameras flashing, audience gasping, serious leg envy rearing its ugly head (come on! the models' legs go all the way up to their ears - mine barely reached my shoes!) and The Cat Blogger producing a fan to cool herself in a very Karl Lagerfeld-like fashion. Like Fashion Week only better. No Scary Anna Wintour to watch out for. And lots of wine instead.

Then there was a selection of Mert Otsamo's (winner of Finnish version of Project Runway) outfits he'd put together, matching each dress with a specific wine. After bubbly we continued with Chilean Cono Sur Single Vineyard Block 23 Riesling. Really strong, motor oil-like scent was a real surprise, but the wine itself turned out to be a fine one.

Then there was Torres Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé, also from Chile. Wonderfully summery with notes of delightful berriness, this is going to be a hit at the picnics in the summer.

Australian Peter Lehmann's seductively sweet Princess Moscato got us feeling like royalty, too. It was Thursday anyway - a day I've been trying to launch as Tiara Thursday for ages. The outfit it accompanied reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw, who, let's face it, is fashion royalty at its best.

The models made their way through the runway so quickly (easy to do I suppose, with them legs...) that my camera couldn't keep up. It could also be the 12 cm I was teetering on. Or 12 cl in my glass(es). Mert's gowns are a staple in award galas and his sense of drama make him the go-to-designer for many Finnish actresses.

Gerard Bertrand Natyralys Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot (from France) took the evening to a slightly more dramatic direction - a transition also reflected in the outfits. The highlight of the evening was Italian Masi Costasera Amarone.  A powerful wine. As was the finale dress.

Thank you Winestate for a glorious evening!
